Meeting 2 (Inpromtu) Minutes



Date : Thursday 22-Jan-09, 7:30 p.m.
Location : The Sun Inn, Preston
Secretary : Groom/Seens (temp)
Present : Groom, Danny, Little Andy, Priarpism Rosty, D'Mooower, Ribsy by tele-conference (self inflicted), Col Spotweiler.


Suitability of a bride

L.Andy was concerned that all the nominees are too tall except Kylie.
Except Nic, who isn't, but he's not allowed to think about such things [Seens]. How selfish [Danny]. He'll have to see "Readers' Fiances".

The committee had a good look at some pics of #2 choice Ms Isinbyeva, in her action leotard, downloaded on Andy's Blackbarry, and voted unanimously that she should be the Bride.
Action - Seens to email Ms Isinbayeva, to ask her to marry him.

Post Meeting Note - Ms Isinbayeva('s PR dept) replied to email, saying Nyet, unless the Groom gets much handsome-er, richer and sportier.
Therefore, choice of bride reverts to #1 choice Miss Nicola Goddard. Not Miss Nicola Boddard, as previously minuted.


Choice Of Best Man

The nominations are :
* Mr Howard Buckle, Leeds. An old friend from primary school (Click here for pic, me top left, Howard front 2nd from left. He hasn't changed)
Col questioned whether Howard was qualfied, i.e. had he been a best man at least several times before. This obsure line of questioning was ignored.


Theme

Ruled out :
* Cheer Leaders - too american
* League of Gentleman Taxi Drivers - been done really, in the form of butch blokes disguised as "Ladies Night" (see Danny's Stag)
* Gimps
* Pillsbury Doughmen - sorry Si Eags
* Snurgle Hounds - something to do with dogs on heat in red jackets with trumpets ??
* Girls Aloud - staring Cheryl Crow [Danny] ??
* Stormtroopers
* Burkha Clad Girl Suicide Bobbers - with ticking clocks, in London. Hmmm. It's disgraceful that we can't go out dressed as terrorists in our own country [Danny]. Slight adjournment for Laughter. Can't we just go as men ? [Danny] Dispare.
* Olympic Syncro Swim Team - requires nose pegs
* Star Trek
* Costume Drama Characters. ie. Mr Darcy et al. - e.g. fat Victorians, which went off into Panto Dames / Widow Twanky / Black Adder / Elizabeth I. All too historical.

So, narrowed down to :
* French / Milk Maids - lots of feather dusters to tickle the ladies with, or "oo ar, koind sir" (Cornish accent). Julie Andrews was mentioned, not sure why.
* Brides
* Witches, and a late entry of :
* Bunny Girls

Somebody (not L.Andy Archer tho) suggested that we could all get into Lynda Archer's brides dress. Persona non gratis that is.
At this point Ribsey phoned to say that he was looking forward to dressing as a bride.
Some discussion about all to make their own, or get supllied for the usual £10-15.
Col Spot-weiler Puppy stated costumes need to be made collectively by him & the Groom.
Or something in between e.g. provide veil. And a dozen garters to give away ?. TBD


Location

From the previous list, Carlisle ? - no, "we'd get f....d". Apparently it's a bit rough.

Other random places suggested were Bristol (Bride's home town), or nearby Cheltenham ?
Then, inevitably, Gloucester, quickly followed by a string of other building societies (we've done Skiption) :
Bingley, Nationwide (that's a BIG stag do), Hong Kong & Shanghai ...

Aside, Cheltenham is home of the word "Chav" - or is ?
Action - Anthony Glenholm to confirm.

Also, as the chosen Bride is [was] Russian, so Russia ?. And Yelana may have some lush sporty sisters on hand.

Then anything beginning "B" seemed popular ; Bath (see Jill Critch for details ?), Buxton, Bangor (i.e. Bang-her, phnar).
Belfast ? No, Danny might get knee-capped for not letting kids out on bikes.

Preston - quickly poo-poohed. Moower suggested that if we're not allowed to stay on home ground, we could bunk down on New Hall Lane. Laughter.

Clitheroe - nearby, good pubs ? scope for daytime activities (walking, mountain biking etc.) Pronounced not "clit hero", but cosmopolitan Clithhh-errrrro (eth-eth-eth), like Bar-thel-ona.
Action - L.Andy to look at accom (barn, bunk house, travelodge etc.)
Action -Danny to look at beer tasting festival & curry & club. Because he volunteered to.


Dates Of Event

Didn't get mentioned, but Ryduuur has his flight booked back from Oz, so it's :
Fri 27 / Sat 28-Mar-09


Next Meeting

Provisionally Sat 07-Feb-09, at a shoe/tutu shop in Leeds (the Best Man's Mrs's business premises Planet Dance)
A more practical option was Headingley, near where the BM lives.
Action - Seens to confirm next meeting date/location with BM.
