(The motocross section of The Al Nasr Motor Sports Club)
Here's the official club membership document, which includes a potted history of the club.
Bear in mind, this was in the days when all documents were produced using a photocopier, scissors, Pritt-stick, and lots of Tippex. Notice the front cover is sketched from a newspaper clip (see below) of Nigel Payne on his YZ125F.
This is a race program from 17-Dec-82 :-
Some newspaper clippings of race reports, from The Khallej Times and The Gulf News :-
A few piccies of races. I had a wig in those days. Hover over (some) pics for comments.
The original DDD's race track was at the Al Nasr Motorsprts Club Stadium, sort of between Liesureland, Al Fajers and St Mary's Cathoilc High School.
There was a double jump, a table-top jump, and a "Vera" jump with a tunnel under it to enter the track.
(One of my first races, on a Yamaha YZ250F (37 bhp) ...)
Early 80s we moved to the Dubai Metropolitan Hotel Race Track, on the Abu Dhabi Road, opposite Saffa Park.
The hotel manager let us use the whole rear carpark for the pits.
The hotel's Red Lion bar (Double Diamond, sticky red carpet and fake wooden beams) provided a few inter-race beers for the Abu Dhabi boys.
On race days (alternate Fridays, except summer months), there'd always abe a collection of locals doing doughnuts in the front carpark in their jazzed-up Nissans.
I've (or poss Richard Stallard) also got an old beta-max video somewhere of a race at The Met, filmed by Major Dick Stallard from the top of his Rangey.
It has commentary by a pissed John Murt. Must find it, and get it converted to DVD.
(On my second race bike, a Suzuki RM250Z (43 bhp, 99kg) ...)
Feb '83 - Away international trip to Muscat "Jebel Jumpers", Oman.
